Freaky Deaky 3-Day Halloween Festival

For the past 7 years, Chicago promoter React Presents has thrown their annual Halloween party called Freaky Deaky.  What originally began as a one night costume party back in 2008, expanded to a 2 day event in 2012 which brought in over 9,000 fans, making it the biggest Halloween event in the Midwest.  This year, they’re expanding yet again to a full 3-day festival, complete with 3 stages, premium decor, carnival rides, games, haunted houses & graveyards.  The event will feature over 75 artists, covering genres from hip hop to techno with a wide range of electronic music sub-genres in between.  Expansion comes with the task of finding a venue large enough to hold the expected 75,000+ fans over 3 days along with all the bells & whistles this year’s festival has to offer.  React Presents selected Toyota Park, home of the Chicago Fire as the new location for Freaky Deaky 2015.

React Presents was founded in 2008 & is a full service club, concert and festival promotion company based in Chicago.  The company produces events in Chicago, books select events across the Midwest, and has offices in Detroit & Milwaukee.  React Presents produces 3 electronic music festivals: Spring Awakening at Soldier Field, North Coast Music Festival at Union Park, and Summer Set in Northern Wisconsin.  React is an SFX Entertainment company, the largest global producer of live events and digital entertainment content focused on electronic music culture and other world-class festivals.

This festival is loaded with world class talent, headlined by Bassnectar, Armin Van Buuren, Pretty Lights, 2 Chainz, Big Gigantic & Carnage.  Headliners for the 2nd stage include Action Bronson, Benny Benassi, Borgore, Datsik, Flying Lotus, Griz, Logic, Mac Miller & Oliver Heldens.  The 3rd stage, will be transformed each night into a “Scary Stage” & will feature Markus Schulz, Gesaffelstein (DJ set) & Richie Hawtin as headliners.

Artist Spotlight: Bassnectar

Lorin Ashton, better known by his stage name Bassnectar, grew up in the San Francisco Bay area & was influenced early from metal and rock bands such as Metallica, Megadeth and Nirvana.  These influences are clear in tracks like “Pennywise Tribute”, “Seek and Destroy (Bassnectar Remix)” and “Boomerang”, which all use samples of heavy metal & punk with overwhelming basslines.  Ashton felt an immediate sense of comfort while attending rave parties in the mid-nineties, which led to the union of his heavy and electronic style of music.  He describes his music as amorphous and ever-changing, which is reflected in the unique sound & personalities of his numerous releases & podcasts.  Bassnectar zeroed in on his style by playing house parties in the San Francisco Bay area & began building momentum at Burning Man by playing up to 7 sets per night.  He began as an open sourced musical experiment & explored the cohesion between music and community.  Ashton has advocated for causes like free press and true media, net neutrality, ending corporate personhood, public knowledge, and the non-profit organization Conscious Alliance.  He has been a strong advocate of charity, in 2011 he donated $1 from every ticket sold on his tour to charity via the “Dollar Per Basshead” campaign.  The total of $250,000 was distributed across 3 charities chosen by fans, Alternet, Free Press (organization) and Reach Out (non-profit).  The Dollar Per Basshead campaign continued in 2012 and 2013 which gave the fans another chance to vote in order to determine the distribution $100,000 per year across a variety of organizations.  The Bassnectar movement has resulted in a community of like-minded fans known as “Bass Heads” and frequently travel to attend his live shows.  In recognition of this community, Bassnectar events always feature a short break near the end of the show to take a “family photo” which consists of Bassnectar facing the rear of the stage with the photo taken of the whole crowd behind him.  These photos are then posted for the online community after each event.  Bassnectar will be headlining Freaky Deaky’s main stage on Friday, October 30.

Parking

On-site parking will be available for $15 per day or $30 for all 3 days.

Weather

Freaky Deaky will take place, rain or shine.  All advertised artists are confirmed to perform, but sometimes the weather does not permit travel to Chicago.  In this instance, acts are subject to change without notice.  For the most up to date information, check out freakydeakyhalloween.com.

Entry & Security

Everyone entering the festival grounds will be searched upon entry.  You will need to empty your pockets, and have all your items examined.  If you have a backpack or purse, security will examine that as well.  Narcotics officers will be working inside and outside the festival grounds.  All narcotic laws will be strictly enforced.  We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone.  Shoes may be taken off for search.

Prohibited Items

Alcohol, drugs or paraphernalia, large chains, massagers, laser pointers, glowsticks, LED gloves, spiked jewelry, outside food or beverages, open or refillable E-cigs or vaporizers, flag poles or totems, coolers, lawn chairs, tents, frisbees, large umbrellas, unsealed tampons, bota bags, stickers, poi instruments, stuffed animals/dolls, professional cameras, GoPros, audio/video recording equipment, open cigarettes, any illegal substance, marker pens, unauthorized solicitations, sampling or flyers of any kind, dust masks, musical instruments including whistles, cans/bottles/glass, animals (except service animals), pacifiers, spray paint or aerosol cans of any kind, weapons of any kind, unsealed eye drop containers, unopened over-the-counter medications, unopened bottles of vitamins, any other items deemed as posing a threat to the safe enjoyment of the concert by management, and bad attitudes.

Allowed Items

Sealed cigarette packs, Digital phone, point and shoot cameras, disposable cameras, fanny packs, empty Camelbak’s (you will be required to remove the pouch for inspection prior to entry), purses, European carry-alls, and average school-sized backpacks (keep in mind the more stuff you bring, the longer everyone in line will have to wait), blankets, hoolahoops, flags, sunglasses, hats, lighters, sun block, lip gloss, binoculars, and positive attitudes.

Safety, Medical & Hydration

The safety of every fan, artist & staff member is priority one.  Professional media staff and security will be present throughout the duration of the event.  If you, a friend, or another attendee need any assistance, please look for medical tents or seek out a staff member.  Weather in Chicago can be tricky, but when you’re moving and dancing for several hours, staying hydrated is absolutely necessary.  There are free water fountains located throughout the festival grounds.  Please remember to drink water in intervals throughout the day and take period breaks, especially in hot weather.  “Freaky Deaky Halloween Festival Safe & Sound” signage will be posted throughout the festival grounds with a hotline number to call if you see someone in need of medical attention or security.  Please do not hesitate to call this number.  The Freaky Deaky Halloween Festival Wellness Team will also be present at the fest.  This team of your peers is solely dedicated to the safety, wellness and memorable experience of every attendee.  They will have a direct line to medical and safety staff and will have free water bottles for anyone in need.  They will be brightly marked and visible.  Please do not hesitate to approach them if you see someone who is in need of attention.  We’re all responsible for everyone’s well-being.  Don’t forget to give back to the community and take care of one another.

Public Transportation

Toyota Park is on the CTA Orange Line route & the Toyota Park Express Pace Bus can be taken from the Orange Line stop to & from the stadium on certain event days.  The Toyota Express bus departs the Orange Line Midway station every 20 minutes starting 2 hours before the event starts.  Buses leave Toyota Park 30 minutes after the event ends to return to the Orange Line Midway station.  Your CTA Ventra card is good for fares and transfers on CTA and Pace.  A regular Pace fare is charged for transportation on the Toyota Park Express, or a normal transfer fee is charged when coming from the Orange Line.  The Toyota Express bus stop is located at the Southwest Corner of 71st St. & Harlem Ave.

Taxi Cabs

Taxi Cabs are allowed to pick-up/drop-off guests in the East Lot.  For taxi service, please call 800-TAXI-CAB.  After most events, there will be a taxi stand located outside Gate D.
