The Columbus Blue Jackets will be looking to turn things around after a 2011-2012 NHL season that saw the firing of head coach Scott Arniel, leaving assistant coach Todd Richards to finish the season. The Jackets’ season initially seemed promising after they acquired right-winger Jeff Carter in the offseason but a rough start would go on to set the tone for the rest of the season. They ended their season by placing 5th in the Central Division and missing the playoffs. Still, Coach Richards is confident in his team and is already working on bringing a change to the franchise; this offseason, Jackets have signed winger Nick Foligno to a 3-year deal and are working on trading captain Rick Nash. The defensive will have to greatly improve, however, after ranking 28th in goals allowing per game and last in penalty kill percentage. But once the makeover to this franchise during the offseason is done, there is little doubt that the team will be looking refreshed and rejuvenated. The is no doubt that the Blue Jackets can be one of the most improved teams in the Western Conference entering the 2013 NHL season if they continue their current offseason plan. The Columbus Blue Jackets were founded in 2000 as an expansion team for the city of Columbus, Ohio and play hockey in the Central Division of the Western Conference. Still a young team, the Jackets qualified for their first postseason in 2009 and are still looking for their first division championship. Captain Rick Nash led the team in almost every offense category last season and consistently found help from left-winger Vinny Prospal, who led the team in assists. With Nash’s future in Columbus uncertain, and the addition of Nick Foligno and possibly more on the way, the Jackets’ team will be looking more renovated than ever before going into the 2013 NHL season.
