Last season saw a tremendous effort from the Phoenix Coyotes as they finished the regular season with their first division title and a postseason that saw a driving run that was cut short in the Western Conference Finals. The Coyotes valiant attempt in the playoffs was led by Radim Vrbata, who led the team in goals (35), and Ray Whitney, who led in assists and points (53 and 77). Early this offseason, it was announced that team captain Shane Doan will not be returning to the franchise that he spent his impressive 16-year career at. Losing Doan will be a hard hit for the Coyotes but they have the ability to bounce back and recover. Vrbata will be returning along with center Martin Hanzala and enforcer Raffi Torres, which will definitely keep prowess of this team’s offense alive. Also, they have already acquired David Moss from the Flames and Zbyn?k Michálek from the Penguins during the offseason, supplying the Coyotes with some much-needed toughness and improved scoring ability. Goalie Mike Smith’s first season with the franchise was solid (GAA of 2.21), but in the wake of the several personnel changes he will likely need to improve in order to keep his team a top contender in toughening division. With the L.A. Kings looking to defend their Stanley Cup title, the San Jose Sharks looking to make a charge at their first title, and the Dallas Stars looking more improved than ever before, the Pacific Division will be one of the toughestdivisions in the league. But this doesn’t mean the Coyotes cannot build off their success from last year and make another run at the Stanley Cup in the 2013 NHL season. Don’t miss the Phoenix Coyotes’ 2013 NHL season by getting your tickets from you guy at Gold Coast Tickets! The Phoenix Coyotes represent the city of Phoenix, Arizona in the NHL and are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The Coyotes were founded as the original Winnipeg Jets in 1972 and one of the four WHA teams absorbed by the NHL when the two leagues merged in 1979. In 1996, the team relocated to its current location and was renamed the Phoenix Coyotes. Years of financial trouble left the Coyotes bankrupt and the NHL currently owns the team. The 2011-12 NHL season was the first the time the Coyotes won their division since the team founded and they seem to be ready to put years of unfruitful playoff attempts and financial turmoil behind them. The Coyotes have played their home games at Jobing.com Arena in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale since 2003 after spending almost 8 years at the America West Arena in downtown Phoenix. Just a couple of the greatest skaters to ever play for the Coyotes include Mike Gartner and Brett Hull, both Hall of Famers.
