2013 Result: 58-24 (2nd West seed), lost NBA Finals to Miami Fans no longer seem to respect them, but the Spurs just keep rolling year after year. They made their first Finals appearance since 2007 and were ready to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy in Game 6, but a last second three-pointer by Ray Allen sent the game into overtime. The Spurs went on to lose that game and the next one, blowing the Finals spectacularly. But if last season was any indication, the Spurs will be back for more this year. They take a lot of criticism for having such an old roster with Tim Duncan at 36 and Manu Ginobili at 35, but Tony Parker still has plenty of years left at age 30. Duncan is still a double-double machine. Coach Gregg Popovich will always keep his guys in strong contention and recently has fit in a couple young players well in Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. They signed Marco Bellinelli to be another long-range threat. Ginobili is most effective coming off the bench, so the signing of Bellinelli makes sense. Tiago Splitter will already be 29 in his fourth NBA season but he too has found a home in the Spurs’ system. It’s easy to count out the Spurs for one of many reasons, but they always find a way to 50+ wins and proved last season they can still get to a championship. The San Antonio Spurs represent the city of San Antonio, Texas in the Southwest Division and Western Conference of the NBA. Founded in 1967 as the Dallas Chaparrals, the Spurs would relocate to San Antonio in 1973. In 1976, they would merge into the NBA and find some stability in George Gervin for several years after that. However, they would struggle throughout the 80s until David Robinson joined the squad in 1989. Robinson helped build the Spurs into a powerhouse and when Tim Duncan joined the team in 1997, they seemed destined to win a NBA title. They were and would win their first championship in 1999. They would win three more in 2003, 2005, and 2007. The Spurs’ 4 four titles are the fourth most in the NBA and have the third highest winning percentage.
