2013 Result: 28-54, missed playoffs If it’s really true that you never know what you got till it’s gone, then Kings fans are catching a break for the ages. Long rumored to be a candidate for relocation, for a few weeks it looked like the Kings were moving to Seattle, uniting dormant Sonics fans in jubilation. But potential owner Chris Hansen had his bid to buy the team rejected by a 22-8 owner vote in May. So the Maloof brothers, the recent owners, instead sold the team to a Silicon Valley tech entrepreneur for $535 million. Plans are to keep the team in Sacramento. But for all the talk about how Sacramento is such a great basketball market, they didn’t really show it last season as they were last in the league in attendance at just 13,749 fans per game. A porous defense was two and a half points per game worse than any other in the league, leading to a major personnel shift for this year. They traded 2012 top draft pick Thomas Robinson to Houston for Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas, and Cole Aldrich at the trade deadline, opting for depth of individual potential. They got a steal in Kansas’ Ben McLemore at the seventh overall pick, an instant game-changer and possible future scoring leader. McLemore will try to replace the production of Tyreke Evans, who was traded to New Orleans in a three-team trade that brings just Greivis Vasquez to Sacramento. They also signed dependable veteran Carl Landry; he’ll be an improvement on both ends of the floor. DeMarcus Cousins (17.1 PPG, 9.9 RPG) still has attitude problems but that’s nothing winning can’t fix. Right now he’s still their best player, whether Sacramento fans appreciate him or not. The Sacramento Kings represent the city of Sacramento, California in the Pacific Division and Western Conference of the NBA. Founded in 1945 as the Rochester Royals, the Kings would move to Cincinnati and Kansas City before finally relocating to their current location in Sacramento. Over the years the Kings would boast talented players like Mitch Richmond and Chris Webber but have yet to claim a championship since their first in 1951. In recent years they have been rebuilding and still haven’t made the playoffs since 2006. But with exciting young talent in McLemore, Cousins, and Patterson, now is a perfect time to get your tickets to the Sacramento Kings’ 2013-14 NBA season. Get your tickets today!
