2013 Result: 33-49, missed playoffs As always, the Trail Blazers were the beneficiaries of tremendous fan support in 2012-13. The Trail Blazers averaged 19,982 fans per home game to see a 49-loss team. But they had help, as this was no ordinary 49-loss team. They had rookie point guard Damian Lillard (19.0 PPG, 6.5 APG), clearly the standout rookie of the season. Wesley Matthews is a productive player but seems better served in some kind of rotation as his playmaking ability is limited. Their moves in the offseason were insignificant, so a suspect defense could plague the team again. Their only really notable move was picking up three-point shooter Dorell Wright. But they had four draft picks, most notably the 10th overall pick which they used to pick Lehigh guard C.J. McCullom. In McCullom and Lillard the Blazers have one of the more exciting guard duos in the league. But the face of the franchise is still center LaMarcus Aldridge (21.1 PPG, 9.1 RPG), a premier center in today’s league. With Lillard, McCullom, and Meyers Leonard, the Blazers have some promising young talent too. But it remains to be seen how they’re going to go up against the star-studded lineups in their division, specifically OKC’s, and the defensive stalwarts in Denver. Still, the Blazers weren’t nearly as bad as their record would show as they lost their last 13 games of the season. The future is bright in Portland and as always the fans will be right there behind them.
