2013 Result: 31-51, missed playoffs Faces of the Timberwolves franchise?  Kevin Love, Kevin Love, Kevin Love, and maybe Ricky Rubio.  Nikola Pekovic (16.3 PPG, 8.8 RPG) actually had a breakout year at age 27 for what it’s worth, but he’s not viewed as a long term solution, especially as he has yet to resign as of this writing.  They probably let go of 31-year-old Andrei Kirilenko at the right time, allowing him to sign with the Nets.  Other than that they brought in veterans Corey Brewer and Ronny Turiaf as established veterans to build beneath, and perhaps keep the team competitive in a franchise that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2004.  Back then they were coached by Flip Saunders, and Latrell Sprewell, Sam Cassell, and a 27-year-old Kevin Garnett were their leading scorers.  Arizona standout Derrick Williams is slowly improving but he still isn’t crashing the boards as much the Wolves would like with only 5.5 RPG in almost 25 minutes per game.  You know a team is in trouble when Luke Ridnour starts all 82 games.  But they got some big names in the draft in UCLA’s Shabazz Muhammad and Louisville’s Gorgui Dieng.  If Muhammad can control his ego and stay humble through little playing time in his young seasons, he could be a major difference maker.  While he’s just a question mark for now, Saunders (who, ironically, has returned to be the GM) may have just made an excellent draft.  For this season, though, it’ll be all Kevin Love (18.3 PPG, 14.0 RPG) yet again.   The Minnesota Timberwolves are based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and play basketball in the Northwest Division and Western Conference of the NBA.  They were founded in 1989 as an expansion team for the state of Minnesota.  Like most expansions, they struggled in their early years but found stability after acquiring Garnett in the 1995 NBA Draft.  Garnett helped the Timberwolves reach the playoffs eight consecutive times from 1997 to 2004 and win their first division title in 2004.  In 2007, Garnett would leave the Timberwolves and they would again struggle until 2010 when they drafted Rubio to go with Love. Love and Rubio are expected to end Minnesota’s troubles and begin a new era in their franchise’s history.  Now is a perfect time to get your tickets to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2013-14 NBA season.  Get your tickets today!
