Santana is a Latin rock fusion band founded in San Francisco in the 1960s by Carlos Santana. The band exploded onto the scene after their performance of "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock in 1969, where their Latin influences set them apart from the rest of the performers. The band followed up the success with a debut album and proceeded to release music since then. After the release of their third studio album in 1971, Santana's lineup switched for the first time since their iconic performance at Woodstock. After a short hiatus, Santana experienced a resurgence in the public eye at the end of the 90s and into the new millennium. After being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Santana released their album Supernatural in 1999. Armed with their chart topping single "Smooth" the album performed very well after a modest debut. After the success of the album's second single "Maria Maria" the album hit the top spot on the charts, making it the first number 1 in the United States since the band's 1971 self-titled release. In 2003 Carlos Santana was ranked as the fifteenth best guitarst of all time by Roling Stone magazine. In 2013 Carlos Santana announced that the band's original lineup would be reuniting, and in 2014 the band released their twenty-second album Corazon as well as a live recording of their supporting tour from a performance in Mexico. Over the years the band has achieved 8 Grammy Awards (while Carlos Santana has won an additional two as a solo artist) and 3 Latin Grammy Awards. They have collaborated with the likes of Rob Thomas, Shakira, Michelle Branch, and Chad Kroeger. Their Latin tinged rock sound continues to be heard on radios and in venues across the world.
