Primus is a Grammy nominated California based band that has been releasing music since being founded in 1984 by Les Claypool and Todd Huth. Claypool brought his vocals and his skills with the bass while Huth filled out the sound with his guitar. When Huth left the band in 1889 to focus on his family, Claypool convinced Larry Lalonde, whom he had worked in the past, to join Primus as a replacement guitarist. Over the course of the band's lengthy career a collection of other musicians have swelled the band's ranks; however, Claypool and Lalonde have been the driving force behind the group's continued presence. Stylistically Primus's music tends to transcend typical genres, borrowing from a variety of different sounds to create a sound that is wholly specific to the group. After several years of honing their talents on a variety of stages Primus released their first studio album Fizzle Fry in 1990. The album was considered a success and it garnered the band their first record deal. After releasing several more studio albums and a collection of extended play albums during the 1990s the band went on a short hiatus before coming back to the public with a new lineup in 2003. They made their return with an extended play album, which was sold alongside a collection of live performance footage from the band's previous performances. Since then Primus has continued releasing music to their fans. Some of their releases include 2011's Green Naugahyde and 2014's Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble. Touring has played a large role in the development of Primus. The band have embarked upon more than 25 shows since their first, 1991's Bring The Noise Tour. Primus has performed on iconic stages including Lollapalooza and Vegoose and has released several critically acclaimed live recordings over their expansive career. A typically Primus concert revisits some of the band's biggest hits while always bringing something innovative and new to the mix.
