The members of Beasthead have been playing music all over the Twin Cities area for almost ten years now. Coming from backgrounds in everything from blues to jazz fusion to funk rock to folk pop, they started working together about a year ago on bringing together all of their past musical experiences and current influences to create a sound that is as unique and diverse as the flourishing creative community found in Minneapolis. What they came up with was 'Tallest Trees', their debut EP, released in September of 2013. This five song EP has provided the local music scene with a great introduction to Beasthead's sound, which weaves together large violin guitar sounds, ambient synth backgrounds, atmospheric vocals, and a rhythm section whose dancy yet aggressive bass and drum tracks can only be compared to those found in Midwest hip hop. The response to their debut EP has been extremely positive, opening up many new doors for them and providing a solid foundation for them as they continue to forge a name for themselves in Minneapolis and hopefully beyond. Reviews: "It’s too easy to describe Beasthead’s sound as ambient, although that’s one component – “Tallest Trees” is more of a continually evolving soundscape. Their music’s effect is like taking in visual art; much like looking at a fine painting, their music doesn’t require constant involvement on the listener’s part, he/she can hang in the background and simply add to the atmosphere, but this particular atmosphere is rife with sonic richness. There’s a silky texture to the vocals and instruments as they thread around each other and finally intertwine. While at times it sounds a little disintegrated, more listens reveal simple, delicate loops that give way to fainter and shadowy works." -Rift Magazine ( "After giving their album an initial listening these guys have jumped….scratch that…kicked in the door to becoming one of my favorite bands in the city. It only took 5 tracks and I am beyond excited for there next live performance" -the MADE blog ( Read more on User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
