Tremendous rushing offense and pass defense was Wisconsin’s recipe for success in 2014. The formula worked to the tune of the second-best scoring defense in the Big Ten and a 10-2 regular season record. But the season ended in dramatic fashion, as before their 34-31 win over a good Auburn team in the Outback Bowl, they stunningly lost the Big Ten Championship to Ohio State 59-0. It was easily the most lopsided conference title game ever and a sheer embarrassment. But the rebound was impressive, and under a new coach they’ll hope to raise the bar. Quarterback is a question mark as Joel Stave has the experience but not the consistency, and nobody else has the consistency. Alex Erickson is the unquestioned top wide receiver, but there’s not much after that with experience there either. The Badgers also have to replace some guy named Melvin Gordon, who apparently rushed for 2,587 yards and 29 TDs last year. Four-star recruits Bradrick Shaw and Jordan Stevenson could be these replacements. Or they could not be. The offensive line is inexperienced too. There’s a lot to work on here. Sounds like Wisconsin will be relying on the defense a bit more than they’ve been accustomed to. The Wisconsin Badgers operate under coach Paul Chryst at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. The golden age of UW football is now, as the team has made a bowl appearance in 13 straight and 20 of 22 seasons. 2014 was Wisconsin’s sixth double-digit win season in their last eight. Gordon was no fluke and his on his way to NFL stardom as the first running back drafted in the first round in a few years. UW has sent 301 players to the NFL, including Lee Evans, JJ Watt, Chris Chambers, Russell Wilson, and Owen Daniels. The Badgers have rivalries with Minnesota, Iowa, and to a lesser degree, Nebraska. The Minnesota one is most heated as the longest-running rivalry in DI, and the Nebraska began in just 2011 when they joined the Big Ten. All of them are very tight record-wise. Wisconsin’s had some notable non-conference games lately, and 2015 starts with one of their biggest in history in Alabama. The home schedule also includes Miami (OH), Troy, Hawaii, Iowa, Purdue, Rutgers, and Northwestern. Get your Badgers tickets from Gold Coast Tickets today!
