2013: 4-8 (2-7 Big 12) 2013 was simply a down year for Mountaineer football.  It was their second year in the Big 12, which has proven to be as tough as advertised.  It was also the first season they’ve missed a bowl since 2001.  Early on they hung in a tight loss at #16 Oklahoma, get whipped 37-0 at Maryland, beat #11 Oklahoma State, then lost to #17 Baylor and #16 Texas Tech.  It was an up-and-down season where they seemed to play to their level of competition.  Despite inconsistency at the quarterback position they tended to pass the ball well.  They didn’t have a great receiving core though a year after losing highly-touted NFL picks Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey.  They had an 1,000-yard rusher in Charles Sims but the offense overall wasn’t up to snuff with the rest of the conference.  Then the 100th-ranked scoring defense at 33.3 points allowed per game also did them in.  Dana Holgorsen has coached much better teams before; if he can rally his guys around their rare opportunity to play Alabama at home in Week 1, who knows what could happen?  Other big home games are against Oklahoma, Baylor, and K-State.         Previously, the Mountaineers were a powerhouse in the now-defunct Big East Conference.  The Mountaineers operate under head coach Dana Holgorsen at Milan Puskar Stadium, which holds about 60,000 fans.  Rivalry-wise, Maryland is the only one they have left after the conference change, and that ends in 2017.  They have dormant rivalries with Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and, most notably, Pittsburgh.  WVU doesn’t have a national title but they do have 15 conference titles and 30 bowl appearances.  In the last 10 years the Mountaineers have made three BCS games: a 2005 win in the Sugar Bowl, a 2007 win in the Fiesta Bowl, and 2011’s rout over Clemson in the Orange Bowl.  They sent Geno Smith, Austin, and Bailey to the NFL last year to join Adam “Pacman” Jones, Will Clarke, JT Thomas, and many more Pro Mountaineers.  Gold Coast Tickets does not want you to miss out on the action as the Mountaineers look to gain ground in the Big 12.  Gold Coast Tickets has the best selection for all your college football needs this season!
