2013: 8-5 (4-5 Big 12); won National University Holiday Bowl over Arizona State An upset win over ASU in their bowl game ended a spiraling season on a high note for TTU, who won their first seven games to earn the #10 ranking before losing their last five, all conference games. They feasted on a light early schedule, beating only one opponent with a winning record--#24 TCU. Then they hit #17 Oklahoma and #18 Oklahoma State, K-State, #4 Baylor, and Texas, all big losses. Through it all TTU’s offense relied on a dominant passing game. QBs Davis Webb (2,718 yards, 20 TDs) and Baker Mayfield (2,315 yards, 12 TDs) combined to throw for 392 passing yards per game, the second-highest mark in the FBS. The rushing attack was one of the worst, however, so look for improvement there. Their biggest tests at home this season come against Texas, Oklahoma, and Baylor near the end of the season, so they could again feast on an easy early schedule. Can they keep it going longer this season? The Texas Tech Raiders have a Big 12 football program that has been good for a while; they’ve made 18 bowls in the last 21 seasons, which is more than even some of their powerhouse rivals can say. The Red Raiders play at the Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas, which holds just over 60,000 fans. They have never won a national title, but do have 35 bowl appearances, 11 conference titles, and one division title. You will be sure to see a packed house filled with black and red when rivals Texas A&M, Texas, or TCU come to town. The Raiders have about a dozen players currently in the NFL, most notably Michael Crabtree, Wes Welker, and Danny Amendola.
