2013: 10-4 (6-2 ACC); lost Chick-fil-A Bowl to Texas A&M 2013 was the best season in the history of Duke football, and while that isn’t saying much, the season they had would still be a great season for just about any team. The team was remarkably balanced offensively and defensively although besides NFL-caliber wide receiver Jamison Crowder (108 receptions, 1,360 yards) they lack star power. They hit their low point early on with a 38-14 loss at home to Georgia Tech, followed by another home loss to Pitt where they allowed 58 points. But then they won their next eight, including pivotal wins at Virginia Tech and over Miami, propelling them to a Coastal Division title. As expected they were demolished by Florida State in the ACC Championship Game but gave Johnny Manziel a real run for his money in his final college game. Duke led 48-38 with 6:46 to go before Manziel made a comeback. But overall a terrific season in Durham, creating a new feared contender in the crowded Coastal. The Duke Blue Devils are based in Durham, North Carolina at Duke University. The Devils are members of the ACC and since 1895 have claimed 17 conference titles (7 in the ACC and 10 in the SonCon). With a total of 53 All-Americans, 10 ACC Players of the Year, and 3 NFL Hall of Famers in the school’s history, Duke has had its share of great athletes. Last year was their first bowl since 1995, but there are still 10 Blue Devils currently in the NFL. The Devils play their home games at Wallace Wade Stadium, a small stadium with a capacity just under 34,000. Some of Duke’s rivals include North Carolina, Wake Forest, and NC State. UNC is undoubtedly the biggest rival, though, and over the years they’ve fielded better football teams than Duke and lead the series 58-35-4.
