Lollapalooza Spotlight: Kygo
Who's that Kygo guy you've been hearing on Spotify? This is who. Get to know him at Lolla.
About KygoA 23 year old Norwegian DJ named Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll (aka Kygo) has burst onto the mainstream music scene. His first big hit was a 2013 remix of Ed Sheeran's "I See Fire", which has amassed over 45 million views on YouTube. He's also done remixes of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing", Ellie Goulding's "High for This", Rihanna's "Stay", and Dolly Parton's "Jolene". But the downtempo house producer struck gold with his own singles "Firestone" (2014) and "Stole the Show" (2015), which charted in the top ten across Europe. "Firestone", released last December, has been easily his most successful hit in the US. Even before that release, however, his career took a big leap from a lucky break. Kygo was tapped last second to replace Avicii on mainstage at TomorrowWorld 2014. Just a few months later, "Stole the Show" was featured in the official trailer for Ultra Music Festival, and soon after he was playing at Coachella. So where'd the Norwegian get his mixing prowess? Logic Studio, an Apple program similar to GarageBand, and YouTube tutorials. So far, Gørvell-Dahll has remained humble despite the fame, donating significant money to breast cancer awareness. Hear Kygo at Lollapalooza on Sunday, August 2!
