Augusta On My Mind

The weeks leading up to the Masters is always exciting for any golf fan.  For me especially, because it means my annual trip to Georgia is right around the corner.  This year has proven to be no different.  The Arnold Palmer Invitational was this past weekend, and marked Tiger Woods’ first PGA Tour win in over two years.  Tiger will skip the Shell Houston Open as usual, and keep Augusta on his mind.

Another past Masters Champion found himself in the winners circle this past week.  Freddy Couples, one of my favorite golfers, won the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic.  I love seeing Freddy at the top of leader boards, and if his back holds up, hopefully he can carry the momentum to Augusta, Georgia.  Before he hits Augusta National, he will play in the Shell Houston Open, one of his favorite Tournaments.  I see Freddie as a front running favorite to go back to back, and take down the Shell Open!

In typical Tiger fashion, his game is peaking at the right time.   Woods has always played for his game to peak for each of the four Majors.  With Tiger winning  by five strokes this past weekend, he is certainly a favorite heading into the Masters.   All of this happening on the eve of Hank Haney’s book release, which is all about Tiger Woods.  When talking about favorites in the Masters, one can never leave out Phil Mickelson for obvious reasons.    Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Keegan Bradley and Bubba Watson are also looking to do well at the Masters, for their chance at a green jacket.

If I make it in through the gates for a practice round this year, I’ll bring back some pictures of Augusta National and the players (cameras are only allowed in during practice rounds).  With one week to go, I’m excited as ever to head down to Georgia for “an experience unlike any other”.  If you’ve never been to the Masters, I strongly suggest you make it out.  Even if you aren’t a golf fan, there is something for everyone.  It really is an incredible walk based just on scenery alone, not to mention the star power that will be following the players.
