Virginia Tech Hokies

The Virginia Tech Hokies are set to take on their 2012-2013 college basketball season.  The Hokies are a defensive minded team, that traditionally have had trouble scoring the basketball.  Former coach Seth Greenberg has always set in stone that the Hokies defensive prowess will win them basketball games.  However, that is not that case as the Hokies fell short of the NCAA Tournament year after year.  It is interesting to note that when they play top ranked opponents they never get blown out because of their defensive, but lose by single digits because of their lack of offense.  That is why they brought in head coach James Johnson last year.  Johnson knows the importance of defense, but also stresses a new offensive system to put the ball in the bucket more often and not always settle for outside jumpers.  In Johnson's first year as head coach the Hokies finished 16-17 with a 4-12 record in the ACC.  Nonetheless, it was a rebuilding year for the Hokies as they return leading scorer Erick Green and leading rebounder Dorian Finley-Smith.  Green averaged 15.6 points per game while Smith grabbed 7 boards every contest.  The Hokies also bring in a great recruit in small forward Marshall Wood.  Wood is a 6'7 small forward, so he has NBA size, and the unique talent of being a good ball handler.  A wing player with ball handling skills is exactly what the Hokies need to succeed next season.  The Hokis best season came in 2007 when they advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996.  The Hokies defeated both Duke and North Carolina in that season, but lost in the second round of the tourney to Southern Illinois, a very disappointing loss.  Virginia Tech plays their home games at the beautiful Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia.  It is there that the Hokies will have to win most of their games, as playing on the road in the ACC is fairly difficult.  Gold Coast Tickets does not want you to miss out on the action of the Hokies try and make it back to the NCAA Tournament.  Grab the best seats in the house at the Cassell Coliseum or follow your Hokies on the road right here at Gold Coast.
