Whitecaps FC came into the league in 2011 along with the Portland Timbers and had a rough expansion season, as could be expected. But in 2012 they became the first Canadian team to make the MLS playoffs. Despite missing the playoffs in 2013 they won the Cascadia Cup against rivals Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders. They’re part of the hugely popular MLS scene in the Pac Northwest; despite missing the playoffs two of their first three seasons they’ve had great attendance. They also have a very clean, slick logo that, in this writer’s opinion, rivals anyone else’s in the league.
The Whitecaps play at BC Place, a massive retractable roof stadium in downtown Vancouver also home to one of the more successful franchises of the CFL, the BC Lions. In addition to Seattle and Portland, the Whitecaps have rivalries with fellow Canadian MLS teams Toronto FC and Montreal Impact. Vancouver’s first game in the MLS was a home game against Toronto to try to spark that rivalry. Jay DeMerit has been captain for the entirety of the team’s existence. This season they’re back in the hunt for the playoffs and more. Make sure to get your Whitecaps FC tickets from Gold Coast Tickets!
