Toronto FC joined the MLS in 2005 as part of MLS’s continued expansion throughout North America. They played their first game in 2007 and have yet to make the playoffs. That all looks to change in 2014 however.
Toronto FC officially put their name on the map when they announced the signing of three big name players prior to the start of the 2014 season. Brazilian number one goalie, Julio Cesar, England striker Jermaine Defoe, and star US Men’s national team member Michael Bradley all joined Toronto FC. The signings instantly turned them into a contender. Along with the three stars, Toronto boasts other solid players including former MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario.
