The Book of Mormon

Note: The Book of Mormon has a parental advisory for explicit language. The Book of Mormon was co-written by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez, and Matt Stone. The trio decided to work together after Parker and Stone attended Robert Lopez’s production of Avenue Q in New York several years ago. After the show Lopez approached Parker and Stone to introduce himself, and the rest is history. Parker and Stone are best known for their hit animated TV series South Park, the show satires pop culture and human lifestyles including religion, music, movies, and world issues. Together they also have starred in a few feature films and were nominated for an Academy Award for their work on South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut. The pair also earned four Emmy Awards for their work on South Park. Robert Lopez has an equally impressive resume. His first two attempts at Broadway (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q) have both earned him Tony Awards for Best Musical. Together with Trey Parker he shares a Best Musical Score Award and Best Book Award for The Book of Mormon.

The show tells the story of two Mormon missionaries sent to Africa where a warlord threatens the local townspeople. The missionaries attempt to spread their Mormon messages to the troubled indigenous that are too busy worrying about famine, poverty, and disease. Hilarity ensues. The highly acclaimed play is the proud owner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical. It is co-directed by Trey Parker and Casey Nicholaw. After a great first run in Chicago in 2013, Gold Coast Tickets is delighted to offer tickets for the second round, running from September 2014 to May 2015.
