The city of Seattle was awarded a MLS team in 2007 after many years of trying. Their inaugural season took place in 2009 and was the first MLS team ever to win its first three games. Soccer in Seattle instantly became a hit as the expansion team set a new MLS record for average attendance with 30,943 fans per match.
Today, the Sounders are as popular as ever and that average attendance number has jumped to 40,000 fans per game. The Sounders made their presence even more apparent when they agreed to bring a player back to the MLS for the largest MLS transfer fee ever. That player was US Men’s national team star Clint Dempsey. Dempsey signed with the club in 2013 after spending a majority of his career playing in Europe. Even without Dempsey, however, the Sounders boast a pretty impressive roster. It includes the likes of Dandre Yeldin and Brad Evans, both who have seen time on the national team as well as Cuban midfielder Osvaldo Alonso.
The Sounders play their home games at CenturyLink Field. The same CenturyLink Field the Seattle Seahawks play their games at. It is undoubtedly the best place to watch an MLS game in the league. The Seattle-Portland rivalry also marks perhaps the best rivalry in the league. There are so many reasons to come check out the Seattle Sounders in action!
