The NFL plays home to many former Aztecs, currently: Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Russell Allen and Carolina Panthers defensive end Antwan Applewhite. In addition, former Aztec coaches and players have gone on to be prominent figures in sports and Super Bowl winners: John Madden, Sean Payton, Brian Billick, and NFL Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk. The last two seasons have been great for the Aztecs, going above .500 and making bowl game appearances. In the 2010 season the Aztecs finished 9-4, with a key win against the #23 Air Force. They went on to win the Poinsettia Bowl, defeating a tough defensive minded Navy team.
In 2011, the Aztecs finished 8-5, with a key win against Pac 12’s Washington State. They went on to play in the New Orleans Bowl, but did not come up victorious. This season the Aztecs look to play their way back into a bowl game, as they open up against Pac 12 Washington Huskies, a force to be reckoned with.
