Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics, also called the A's for short, are part of the Western Division of the MLB's American league. Gold Coast Tickets has the best tickets for Oakland A's tickets this season! They are currently based out of Oakland California, but were founded back in 1901 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1955 the Athletics moved to Kansas City, Missouri and then to Oakland, California in 1969. The A's play at O.Co Coliseum and are the only MLB team left to share their stadium with a NFL team, the Oakland Raiders.

One of the A's major rivalries is against the San Francisco Giants. The two teams play against each other in the Bay Bridge Series, named after the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge which connects the two cities. The rivalry between the two teams is considered friendly, with lower animosity then rivalries between Chicago Cubs-White Sox or the New York Yankees-Mets games. 

The A's won their first World Series game against the New York Giants in 1910 during the seventh World Series Champion Game ever played. Since 1910, they have taken home five World Series wins as the Philadelphia A's, and four as the Oakland A's.

In 2003, author Michael Lewis published Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, based on the Oakland Athletics baseball team and their manager Billy Beane. The book tells the story of how the team took a different approach to the game and focused on a more analytical, and statistic-based way of playing the game. Despite the Oakland A's lack of revenue, their method of sabermetrics helped pull the team to the top. The book and concept of sabermetrics was a huge success and is now used by other MLB teams.
