Originally known as the New York Metrostars, the Red Bulls were one of the ten MLS charter clubs when the league was founded. They have never won an MLS cup but reached the final in 2008. The Red Bulls are a team deeply entrenched in history and tradition. There have been many famous players who have represented them at one point or another. The list includes the likes of Alexi Lalas, Tim Howard, Jozy Altidore and Claudio Reyna.
There have been a couple of big years for the club since their inception. The year 2006 involved a total rebrand when Red Bull bought the Metrostars. The name, colors, and logo were all changed. 2010 was once again a year of change. The Red Bulls brought over world class player Thierry Henry from Barcelona. Henry, still with the club, made an instant impact and became a must see player. A new stadium, Red Bull Arena, was also opened in 2010.
With Henry and the addition of Tim Cahill the Red Bulls were able to secure the best record in the regular season in 2013. They were, however, knocked out, in the first round of the playoffs. Playing in New York should continue to help the Red Bulls secure the best talent around. Check out a game at Red Bull Arena this season. Head to Gold Coast Tickets for the best seats in the house!
