Miami Hurricanes (Basketball)

The Miami Hurricanes are set to tip off their 2012-2013 college basketball season. Last season did not go exactly as planned in Jim Larranaga's 1st year with the program. However, he did lead the Hurricanes to a 20-13 overall record, a winning record in ACC play, and a trip to the NIT Tournament. In the NIT Tournament they beat the Valparaiso Crusaders in the first round only to get knocked off by the Big 10's Minnesota Golden Gophers in the second. This year Larranaga says the team has some serious upside returning veteran leadership and gaining young talent. The Hurricanes return leading scorer and assist man Durant Scott for next season. Scott led the team with 12.9 points per game to go along with 3.1 assists. They also bring back senior center Reggie Johnson who looks to average a double-double this year, averaging 10.1 points and 7.2 rebounds last season. Scott and Johnson will not have to do it alone as the Hurricanes bring in a great recruit in center Tonye Jekiri. Jekiri is a Florida native, and has the size and athleticism to jump through the roof. The Hurricanes play there home games at the beautiful Bank United Center in Coral Gables, Florida. It is there that the Hurricanes will want to win most of their games, as playing on the road in the ACC can be very tough. The Hurricanes goal of the season is to make it to the NCAA Tournament, somewhere they have not been since Frank Haith took them there in the 2007-2008 season.
