Los Angeles Kings

The 2011-12 Stanley Cup Champs will enter the 2013 NHL season looking to defend their title and remain a dominating force in the Western Conference. Last season was a dream come true for the Kings as they brought their city its first Stanley Cup ever. Despite being 29th in the league in goals per game, the Kings managed to come away with the Cup with help from a hard-hitting, dominating defense and an unstoppable goalie named Jonathan Quick. Quick was clearly the team’s star during the playoffs, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP, but the Kings still have some weaknesses they need to address. Anze Kopitar led the team in scoring last season with only 25 goals and Justin Williams and Dustin Brown weren’t far behind with 22 each. The talent is there and fans should expect to see an improvement in scoring entering the upcoming season. Luckily, to some of the pressure of the offense, the Kings put together a strong defense that rally behind Drew Doughty and Matt Greene. The Kings have been doing a flawless job during the offseason and the 2013 NHL season could very well see a repeat from last year. The Los Angeles Kings represent the city of Los Angeles, California in the NHL and are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The Kings joined the NHL during the 1967 NHL expansion that doubled the league from 6 teams to 12 teams. In the team’s history, the Kings have only won their division once, in 1990-91, and advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals once in 1992-93 prior to last season. The Kings won their first Stanley Cup in 2011-12 and will be the defending champions entering the 2013 NHL season. Some of the greatest players to ever wear a Kings jersey include Wayne Gretzky, Marcel Dionne, Luc Robitaille, and Dave Taylor. The Staples Center in downtown L.A. has been home to the Kings since they left The Forum in Inglewood before the 1999-2000 season. Some of the Kings’chief rivals include the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks. For more information on the Los Angeles Kings and their 2013 NHL season, visit their website at: http://kings.nhl.com/
