The Wildcats had a marvelous season last year under head coach John Calipari. They went 38-2, and 16-0 in SEC play. They were the outright favorite to win the NCAA Tournament Championship, and did just that. The Wildcats were tenth in the nation in field goal percentage this past year, a task very difficult when you look at their strength of schedule. In addition to winning the big dance, they were the SEC Conference and Tournament Champions. The team was led by Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who went #1 and #2 respectively in the 2012 NBA Draft. Kentucky sent there 6 best players to the Draft, something that has not been done in NCAA history.
Point Guard Marquis Teague went to your very own Chicago Bulls. Although they lost all of their talent, Calipari brings in one of the best recruiting classes in the country to fill their shoes. He rakes in three 5-star recruits and the best of the best at their positions. Nerlens Noel is the #2 player in the nation out of high school and is headed to Lexington next year. He is an absolute beast, a 6’10 center with freak athletic ability. Alex Poythress is a 6’8 forward who ranked #8 in the nation. Poythress can shoot the ball and is mature beyond his years in the game of basketball. Archie Goodwin is the #14 player in the nation coming in this season. He is a 6’4 guard with great ball-handling skills and the size to make it to the next level. Calipari is excited about Goodwin as he calls him one of the toughest players in the nation out of Little Rock, Arkansas. Calipari is sure that the Wildcats will make it back to the NCAA Tournament as they have made it every year for the past 20 years with the exception of their NIT birth in 2009.
The Wildcats play their home games at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, one of the toughest places to play in the nation. The Big Blue Nation are some of the most faithful fans in the world, and the students in the Eruption Zone rock the Arena at every home game.
