The 2012 Duke Blue Devils will be led by 5th year head coach David Cutcliffe as he tries to improve an overall record of 3-9 from 2011. The Devils were 1-7 in the ACC, placing them last in the Coastal Division. Coach Cutcliffe’s goal since he took the position at Duke has been to get his team, a team that hasn’t participated in a postseason since 1994, a long-awaited bowl appearance. This is no easy feat, as any head coach could tell you, especially for a team that from 1997 to 2007 had a win-loss record from of 13-90. Yet, Coach Cutcliffe has confidence in his Devils team and with solid players like quarterback Sean Renfree and wide receiver Conner Vernon, its hard not to see why. Duke’s defense is still young so expect them to develop as the season progresses. Cutcliffe even has several new recruits who can definitely make an immediate impact on both the defensive and offensive sides. The Duke Blue Devils are based in Durham, North Carolina at Duke University and play football at the NCAA Division I level. The Devils are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference and since 1895, have claimed 17 conference titles (7 in the ACC and 10 in the SonCon). With a total of 53 All-Americans, 10 ACC Players of the Year, and 3 NFL Hall of Famers in the school’s history, Duke has had its share of great athletes. The last bowl appearance the Devils made was in the 1995 Hall of Fame Bowl and since then,their football program has fallen into a decline.
