DePaul Blue Demons Basketball

In nine Big East seasons DePaul has really only had one good one, and that was 2006-07.  This year they come off a sixth straight last place finish and lose their top two scorers in Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young.  Last year’s 12-21 (3-15 Big East) campaign recorded its biggest win in a double overtime thriller at Butler but other than that the team was virtually trampled by the rest of the conference.  Billy Garrett (12.4 PPG) had a solid freshman year.  But roster turnover will still be a major theme of this season.  Three transfers figure to get much of the playing time this season but it remains to be seen if any will be major contributors.

The DePaul Blue Demons operate under coach Oliver Purnell at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.  DePaul hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament since its Conference USA days, in 2004 when they knocked off Dayton before losing to UConn.  They last held a national rank in 2001.  The glory days for this program was the late 70s through late 80s, when they made the Tournament almost every year and held a top 10 rank every year between 1978 and 1985 with the exception of 1982-83.  Their list of 32 NBA alumni reflects that era.  The only active player in Wilson Chandler, while names like Quentin Richardson, Mark Aguirre, Rod Strickland, Ty Corbin, and Dave Corzine all donned the Blue Demon uni.  Watch the next wave of NBA talent pass through DePaul--Gold Coast Tickets can get you into the game for a great price!
