DePaul Blue Demons

2012-13 was not the breakout year Coach Oliver Purnell was hoping for as the 11-21 record was actually slightly worse than the year before.  Purnell’s team was beaten up by conference opposition as they went just 2-16 in the Big East.  The offense was not the problem; their points per game actually ranked in the top 80 of over 300 college basketball programs nationwide.  A lot of that had to do with the consistent scoring of Brandon Young (16.7 PPG) and Cleveland Melvin (16.6 PPG).  Both are eligible for another NCAA season and joining them will be four-star point guard Billy Garrett, Jr.  This could be the season DePaul breaks out of their losing ways.  The question will be if DePaul can rebound more efficiently, as they were just 189th in the country in rebounding.  But with the big three leading the way in scoring, DePaul will be competitive this season.  Don’t miss out on one of the last seasons at Allstate Arena!

The DePaul Blue Demons operate under Coach Oliver Purnell at Allstate Arena in Rosemont.  DePaul’s last NCAA Tournament appearance came in 2004 which was their 22nd appearance in the Tournament although four of them would later be vacated by the NCAA.  They’ve made the Final Four twice, in 1943 and 1979, and last made the Sweet Sixteen in 1987.  32 DePaul players have made the NBA, including Wilson Chandler, Quentin Richardson, Ty Corbin, and Terry Cummings.  DePaul’s move to the Big East in 2005 was made in hopes of DePaul becoming a serious contender in basketball but instead their play has mostly suffered, including going 24-71 between 2008 and 2011.  And despite being the closest major conference college basketball team to the city center, DePaul has failed to grab the city’s attention which can be blamed on both the team’s play and inconvenient location of Allstate Arena.  But new digs are on the way near McCormick Place, a new arena that should jumpstart the program making it more attractive for fans and recruits alike.  Get your DePaul basketball tickets today!
