Cheap Trick is a rock band with local roots. As if we needed something more to like them. They were formed in Rockford in 1973, consisting of Robin Zander (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar), Tom Petersson (bass guitar), and Bun E. Carlos (drums). Some of their biggest hits, such as “Surrender”, “I Want You to Want Me”, and “Dream Police” are among the most recognized rock songs on the 20th Century. They had a rough beginning, as none of their first three albums were very popular in the US despite positive critic reviews. But in Japan they were very popular, and the band recorded their first performance in Tokyo at the Nippon Budokan. The live album released from that went triple platinum and made the band huge internationally. Cheap Trick is now known for four decades of near-continuous touring and the use of a large collection of unusual vintage guitars and basses.
