Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a progressive rock band that formed in 1993 in New York City, with multi-talented producer, composer and lyricist Paul O'Neil. O'Neil, along with Jon Oliva, Al Pitrelli and Robert Kinkel collaborated together as a creative team. The band gained noteriety in 1999, after finishing a popular rock opera, titled "Beethoven's Last Night." Prior to his work with Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Paul O'Neil managed and produced bands. A few examples include, Aerosmith, Humble Pie and the Scorpions. O'Neil formed a group called Satavage before his days with TSO, which was a traditional heavy metal band that eventually evolved into a symphonic metal act. Satavage provided inspiration for Trans-Siberian Orchestra's musical identity and style. In later years, popular metal band Metallica would implement a similar symphonic take on their typically traditional heavy metal style.
