2013 Result: 20-62, missed playoffs
No Dwight Howard, no problem? Not exactly. After six consecutive playoff appearances with Dwight, the Magic slumped to become the worst team in the Eastern Conference. They did get career-best seasons out of Aaron Afflalo and Glen Davis and a breakout year from 20-year-old Tobias Harris but that was more because those players wouldn’t be starting on good teams, whereas the Magic had no one better. Orlando also just got flat unlucky. For example, they couldn’t control when Hedo Torkoglu completely lost his three-point shot (.042%), a former strength of his, in the 11 games in which he played. They got Indiana guard Victor Oladipo in the first round of the Draft, however, reinvigorating the starting lineup immediately. But the search for quality players will continue as the roster doesn’t have many of them. Still, Oladipo will get significant playing time this fall and is a must-watch!
