North Carolina Tar Heels

The Tar Heels played well enough to make a bowl with an 8-4 record in 2012, but NCAA penalties prevented them from making a bowl.  That would have marked five consecutive years of bowls, something UNC hasn’t done since 1979-83.  Still, a manageable schedule and a stacked recruiting class has North Carolina in position to make a leap in the Coastal Division.  Quarterback Bryn Renner had a great 28-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio at the head of the offense, and he returns for his senior year.  Explosive Quinshad Davis returns at wideout with Eric Ebron at tight end, so they’ll be able to absorb the loss of Renner’s second favorite target last year, Erik Highsmith.  Last year’s top rusher, 1228-yard rusher Giovani Bernard, has left for the NFL, so senior A.J. Blue should get a crack at starting.  At 5.3 yards per carry in 2012, he has provided little reason to think he can’t do the job.  On defense, coach Larry Fedora introduced a new 4-2-5 scheme last year upon his arrival with a new staff on board with the scheme.  The first year yielded mixed results, but six of UNC’s 10 leading tacklers return, so continuity is key.  The recruiting class includes five players from the ESPN Top 300 and 11 four-star recruits, including quarterback prospect Mitch Trubisky.

The North Carolina Tar Heels represent the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the ACC.  They have played their home games on campus at Kenan Memorial Stadium since 1927.  It is a beautiful place for a football game, surrounded by pine trees that reach above the height of the stadium.  Mel Kiper, Jr. ranked the stadium as the third most scenic venue in college football.  UNC has made 29 bowl appearances, nine conference titles, and 670 all-time wins.  While not always a football powerhouse, the Tar Heels are known as an overall athletic powerhouse in a culture that supports great sports teams.  Many notable NFL players have attended North Carolina, like Lawrence Taylor, Willie Parker, Julius Peppers, and Hakeem Nicks.  See the next NFL great this fall—Gold Coast Tickets has the best seats at the best prices!
