College Football

Clemson Tigers

The last two years have been a new golden age for Clemson Tigers football, as Clemson has won double-digit games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1989-90.  The 2012 team also won the Chick-fil-A Bowl over LSU.  Senior quarterback Tajh Boyd will lead one of the highest-powered offenses around this fall.  Clemson scored the 6th most points per game in the nation last season, and although the defense was ranked just 48th, the offense makes up for it more often than not.  The Tigers lose 1000-yard rusher Andre Ellington and don’t necessarily have an heir apparent, but a rotation of Roderick McDowell, D.J. Howard, and Zac Brooks should get the job done.  Boyd is a mobile quarterback also, rushing for 514 yards last year.  Now a Houston Texan, DeAndre Hopkins had 1405 receiving yards last year, and that production won’t be replicated.  Enter Sammy Watkins and Adam Humphries, both of whom have potential to be Boyd’s new favorite targets.  Also, the Clemson scouts plucked a five-star recruit out of Florida in cornerback Mackensie Alexander.  He should make an immediate impact on that progressing defense.  A ridiculous 15 four-star recruits fill out the roster offensively and defensively, making this the 13th best recruiting class in the nation according to ESPN.

The Tigers are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference and since their first season in 1896, they have claimed one national championship, 18 conference titles, and boast 5 prefect seasons.  Memorial Stadium, commonly referred to as “Death Valley,” has been home to the Tigers since 1942 and is currently the second largest stadium in the ACC.  The Tigers have won in 71% of their games at Memorial Stadium all-time, and in a 2007 game against Boston College, the stadium set the record for the loudest stadium in college football at 133 decibels.  This is a truly exciting place to watch high-octane college football.  Clemson’s rival schools include South Carolina, Georgia Tech, and NC State.  Perhaps the highlight of the season, however, will be a home game against Florida State in a test for supremacy of the ACC.  Get tickets for that game and more with Gold Coast Tickets!
