Lollapalooza Spotlight: GTA

Lollapalooza Spotlight: GTA

About GTA

The name of their group is often mistaken for a Grand Theft Auto reference, but they do actually hail from Vice City, also known as Miami.  Matt Van Toth and Julio Mejia are the two artists behind the name, meeting through Soundcloud and Facebook in 2010 after they heard each other's music online.  But it wasn't because they had the same sound; Van Toth was a house producer, Mejia a hip-hop and salsa guy.  They combined their sounds to form GTA. GTA's tracks are now normally classified as electro-house.  They first made it big when Laidback Luke responded to their messages on his forum and signed the duo to a publishing deal.  GTA has since worked with Diplo and Afrojack, releasing EP "Booty Bounce" under Diplo's Mad Decent record label in November 2012.  The release earned them a strong following locally and internationally.  Touring with Rihanna also helped them reach a broader audience and expand their fan base overall.  "Hard House" was released on Beatport on June 16 of this summer and became an instant, #1 hit on the hip-hop boards.
