Champions Cup Preview: Liverpool vs. Olympiacos @ Soldier Field

It is not every day that two legendary European soccer teams come together to play on U.S. soil. That will be the case, however, this Sunday, July 27th, when the English Premier League’s Liverpool take on Greece’s Olympiacos. The Champions Cup first got its start last summer when Real Madrid took the crown. The tournament serves as a competitive preseason tuneup for the European clubs coming over to the U.S.

Liverpool FC is one of the world’s most historic and famous football clubs having won the English Premier League on 18 separate occasions. The club finished an impressive second in the incredibly competitive EPL this past season. Manager Brendan Rodgers will have a full and talented roster to chose from when Liverpool heads to Solider Field this weekend. On display will be legendary English midfielder, Steven Gerrard, up and coming strikers Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling, as well as new signings Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic.

Their Greek opponents have has won the Greek league a record 41 times. In fact, Olympiacos has won the Greek league 16 out of the last 17 years. Olympiacos are constant players in the Champions league competition, which pits the best clubs in Europe against each other. The club features former Barcelona striker Javier Saviola, and Greek defender and captain Avraam Papadopoulos.
