Chicago to Host State Farm Champions Classic
Where can you find four elite NCAA teams playing under one roof on the same night? The answer is at the United Center on Tuesday November 12th at the third annual State Farm Champions Classic. The match-ups start with the Michigan State Spartans v. the Kentucky Wildcats at 6:30 pm and the Kansas Jayhawks v. the Duke Blue Devils at 8:30 pm. Kentucky leads the series 12-10 against Michigan State who last met March 27th, 2005 when the Spartans pulled out the victory in double overtime with a final score of 94-88. The Jayhawks v. Blue Devils match-up is the second meeting in 11 years. Duke has the edge over Kansas with a record of 7-2 and 4-1 in NCAA Tournaments. The last time these teams met was at the 2011 EA Sports Maui invitational where Duke won 68-61. The Wildcats enter this season with the #1 recruiting class consisting of Dakari Johnson, twins, Andrew and Aaron Harrison, James Young, Julius Randle, and Marcus Lee who were all 2013 McDonalds All-Americans. The list of freshman concludes with in-state athletes, Dominique Hawkins and Derek Willis. Kansas brings back 10 letterwinners none of which were starters from the NCAA Sweet 16 last season. The Jayhawks however did reel in the nation's top recruit in Andrew Wiggins and have been ranked the #2 recruiting class. Duke enters the season with its two best players yet to play a second for the Blue Devils. Jabari Parker, the nation's #2 recruit behind Kansas' Wiggins, will be jonied by Rodney Hood, a sophomore transfer from Mississippi State in their quest for a national title.
