Bears Name Marc Trestman Head Coach
The search is over. The Chicago Bears have officially named Marc Trestman the team’s new head coach. In the last two and a half weeks, Bears’ GM Phil Emery has surely done his due diligence in finding Lovie Smith‘s replacement. Emery reportedly interviewed 13 candidates for the head coach position, three of which made it to a second round of interviews: Marc Trestman, Bruce Arians (Colts offensive coordinator) and Darrell Bevell (Seahawks offensive coordinator). When all was said and done, Trestman received the nod.
What seems to have set apart Marc Trestman apart from the competition his is reputation as a quarterback guru and an efficient offensive play caller. Over the years, Trestman has worked with multiple NFL teams – most notably running top offenses with the likes of Steve Young (49ers 95-96) and Rich Gannon (Oakland 01-03) at the helm. Bears fans hope Trestman can have the same positive results alongside Jay Cutler here in Chicago. Joining Trestman on the Bears’ coaching staff will be former Saints interim head coach Aaron Kromer as Offensive Coordinator and former Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis as assistant head coach and special teams coach.
One familiar face likely to appear on the Bears’ sideline this upcoming season will be Rod Marinelli who is reportedly retaining his defensive coordinator position. Update: Rod Marinelli will not return to the Bears.
