Prediction: Bears to Win 11 in 2011 Regular Season
The Bears ended the first half of their season with an impressive 30-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football this week. They currently are in 3rd place in the NFC North and the 6th seed in the NFC playoff picture. ESPN’s Michael Wilbon summed up the Bears first eight games beautifully: "Looking back, not ahead, the Bears finish the first half of the season with victories over the Falcons, Buccaneers and Eagles, three teams that figured to be in their way for getting to the playoffs, what with the Packers running away with the conference at 8-0. The Bears' three losses are hardly embarrassing: at home to the champion Packers, at New Orleans and at Detroit. Truth be told, 5-3 is about where the Bears should be, considering their troubles along the offensive line and at receiver when the season began.” The Bears' remaining schedule should put them in position to a have a chance to return to the NFC Championship game, but there is still plenty of work to be done to secure a playoff spot.
Check out my predictions for the 2nd half:Detroit Lions Soldier Field, 3:15 PM Sunday, November 13, 2011 WIN - Look for the Bears to avenge their early season MNF loss to Detroit and stay hot. If the Bears can somewhat contain Megatron and avoid giving up the big play they will get the easy W in front of the home crowd. San Diego Chargers Soldier Field, 3:15 PM Sunday, November 20, 2011 WIN - Phillip Rivers will continue his disappointing season for the Chargers (and my fantasy team) as he takes on the Bears D and struggles in the cold weather. Oakland Raiders O.co Coliseum, 3:05 PM Sunday, November 27, 2011 LOSS - A turkey hangover will doom the Bears in Oakland. Darren McFadden and Carson Palmer will benefit from some home cooking and have big games for the Raiders. Kansas City Chiefs Soldier Field, NOON Sunday, December 4, 2011 WIN - The Bears will dominate more than this low scoring game will suggest. Denver Broncos Sports Authority Field @ Mile High, 3:05 PM Sunday, December 11, 2011 WIN - You think Michael Vick has a tough time against the Bears defense? Just wait until you see what they do to Tim Tebow. Kyle Orton will definitely get some snaps in this game. Seattle Seahawks Soldier Field, NOON Sunday, December 18, 2011 WIN - This one will be a repeat of last years NFC Divisional playoff game and be over in the 2nd quarter. Green Bay Packers Lambeau Field, 7:20 PM Sunday, December 25, 2011 LOSS - The Packers might be going for a 16-0 season so don't look for them to ease up on the Bears on Christmas night. Minnesota Vikings Mall of America Field, NOON Sunday, January 1, 2011 WIN - The Bears will continue their dominance over the Vikings and ring in the New Year with a W.
FINAL RECORD: 11-5, 5th seed in NFC playoffsWith the Packers at 8-0 and all but crowned NFC North Champions it’s looking more and more like the Bears will have to play away from Soldier Field in the playoffs for the first time in the Lovie Smith era. Going on the road in the playoffs is a daunting task in the NFL, but I think this team is up for the challenge. The Road to Superbowl XLVI in Indianapolis will in all likely hood be going through Lambeau Field this year. Can we do what the Packers did last year and win three road playoff games (including one at Lambeau Field) to get to the Superbowl?
