‘Tis the Season!
I know it’s only the beginning of October, but the holidays are only eight weeks away (I count Thanksgiving as the beginning of the season!). It’s time to start planning your holiday trip to the theater. A Christmas Story – the Musical (based on the famous movie of the same name) is playing at the Chicago Theatre December 14-30. Find out if Ralphie checks everything off his holiday wish list! Donny & Marie’s Christmas in Chicago is also new and will be at the Oriental Theater (also known as the Ford Center), running from December 6-24. Based on the 1970’s “Osmond Family Christmas” TV show, it will feature many of your favorite holiday hits and is sure to have you singing along! Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker will be at Rosemont Theatre on Saturday, December 10 for one day only. Of course it wouldn’t be the holidays without A Christmas Carol at the Goodman Theatre. The famous production of the timeless tale featuring Larry Yando as Ebenezer Scrooge has been delighting Chicago audiences for over thirty years and will do so again November 26th through December 23. The Joffrey Ballet will perform its rendition of The Nutcracker at the Auditorium Theatre December 9-December 27. Holiday season also means theater season in Chicago, and there are plenty of 'non-holiday' themed shows that will be big hits this time of year. Some include The Addams Family, which will make its return to the Cadillac Palace Theatre December 13–January 1, 2012, and La Cage Aux Folles at the Bank of America Theatre December 20–January 1, 2012. La Cage Aux Folles is based on the movie "The Birdcage" featuring Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, and Gene Hackman. It won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. This holiday season is packed full of great theater, so there's no excuse to miss out because there's something for everyone - enjoy! What’s new this year you may ask?
