Superbowl Halftime: Steeling the Show
With the Chicago Bears coming up short against the Green Bay Packers on January 23, we are just going to have to grin and “Bear” it during the big game this Sunday. Many Chicagoans, (including myself) will be rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, or any other would-be team facing the rival cheeseheads during Super Bowl XLV.
Each year there are two things other than the big game that many Super Bowl spectators look forward to: the halftime performance and big budget commercials. Being a dancer and advertising major, both are of interest to me.
Halftime Show: Black Eyed Peas
I’m especially excited because the Black Eyed Peas will be performing. Fergie is the first woman to play the Super Bowl halftime show since Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe malfunction in 2004. “We want to keep it clean fun. A little of sexual appeal is fine, just nothing that’s inappropriate,” Fergie told Access Hollywood. I am expecting a family fun show and can’t wait to see what Fergie and the boys bring to the stage.
Fox is charging an estimated $2.8 million to $3 million for each 30 seconds of commercial time in Super Bowl XLV, so with a budget like that, I want some quality commercials! Sponsors includes Chevrolet, (which celebrates 100 years this year), Coca-Cola, Mercedes-Benz, and Stella Artois. Who’s ready to see some ads?
So kick back with some beer and your friends and cheer on the team of your choice. Let the game begin! Showdown begins at 6:30pm on Sunday, February 6, 2011.
