Concert Preview: Miranda Cosgrove at the Rosemont Theatre
Who is Miranda Cosgrove? You might recognize her as overachiever, Summer Hathaway in the 2003 box office hit School of Rock starring Jack Black. School of Rock was Cosgrove’s film debut and her performance was praised by critics such as David Ansen of Newsweek, who called her acting in the film “spot on.”
The younger generation and their parents are more likely to recognize her as the star of Nickelodeon’s number 1 hit show, iCarly. The vastly popular sitcom focuses on a girl named Carly Shay who creates her own web show called iCarly with her best friends.
Columbia Records and Nickelodeon Records released iCarly’s soundtrack in December 2007 which eventually took Cosgrove’s single, the iCarly theme song, “Leave It All to Me” to #100 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Kid Albums chart as well.
This newcomer is breaking free from the iCarly mold and has recently recorded her own album “Sparks Fly” (released in April 2010). She describes it as “more mature” and “fun, pop, rock-girl empowerment.”
Miranda Cosgrove will hit the Rosemont Theatre January 28 at 7pm (tickets available here). Her “Dancing Crazy Tour” will stop off at 22 cities including Kansas City, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee, to name a few. Although geared toward the younger crowd, audiences of all ages will appreciate Miranda as she brings her talent and energy to Chicago. Girl Power unite!
