Video & Review: Gorillaz at the Patriot Center

Gorillaz – ‘Clint Eastwood’ live at the Patriot Center
Video taken Oct. 11th at the Patriot Center – Springfield, Virginia

This is the first (and maybe the ONLY!) time Gorillaz is touring.  Known for a dizzying array of guest talent on the albums, Gorillaz co-founder and musical leader Damon Albarn (of Blur fame) brings nearly the whole lot on the road, from guitar and bass handled by Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash, rappers Mos Def, Bootie Brown and De La Soul, and singers Bobby Womack, Rosie Wilson and Yukimi Nagano.

Depending on the song, there is an 8-piece string section, an 8-piece brass section, five background vocalists, a five piece Arabic music section, and more.

Every song is accompanied by videos created exclusively for the tour by the other man behind the “virtual band,” graphic artist Jamie Hewlett.  They are shown continuously on a high def screen above the stage.  It’s a real spectacle that tells the story of latest album The Plastic Beach while still hitting the highlights from the earlier Demon Days and Gorillaz.

It is an EXPERIENCE!

(editor note: The Gorillaz will perform this Saturday, October 16th at the UIC Pavilion at 7:30PM.)
