Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope for America
Wednesday marked the 25th anniversary of the first Farm Aid concert held in Champaign, IL in 1985. This year, Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope for America, will take place at Miller Park in Milwaukee on Saturday, October 2nd. The all-day event starts at 1PM and will feature popular artists like Dave Matthews, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Kenny Chesney, to name a few (full artist lineup below).
Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp started the benefit concert as a means to raising money and awareness for the struggling farm community of the time. Family farms were in despair and facing foreclosure across the heartland when the artists stepped in to help. By 1987, the organization had taken part in helping to pass the Agricultural Credit Act of 1987 which helped to save family farms from foreclosure.
Through the dedicated work of its board of directors, which added Dave Matthews in 2001, many thousands of donors, and nearly 400 artists, Farm Aid is now the longest running benefit concert series in America.
