The Baylor Bears are a college football team that competes in the Big 12 conference. The Bears have not traditionally been great at football; however, these past three years they have really become a force to be reckoned with. Baylor has made a bowl in three straight years for the first time in their history. And offensively, they were perhaps the most exciting team to watch in 2012, scoring 44.5 points per game (4th in the nation) with 340.5 passing yards (4th) and 231.7 rushing yards per game (14th). That even without Robert Griffin III, now in the NFL. His replacement, Nick Florence, filled in superbly last year, but he has also graduated. The next QB would presumably be Bryce Petty, who has completed all of 10 passes over the last two years. Glasco Martin rushed for 889 yards and 15 touchdowns last year, and he’ll be back for a final senior year. A mediocre recruiting class is heavy on linebackers, but besides that it provides little realistic help for an awful defense that was the sole reason Baylor didn’t do better than it did. Baylor allowed 37.2 points per game (113th). If the offense can maintain its high-octane rate with even a passable defense, watch out for Baylor. But as a fan, offense is still great to watch no matter the opponent.
The Bears operate under head coach Art Briles at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas, which holds exactly 50,000 fans. Baylor has never won a national title but has seven conference titles and 20 Consensus All-Americans. Their rival teams are Texas (24-74-4), Texas Tech (34-36-1), and Texas Christian (50-51-7). The Bears have many players currently in the NFL, most notably including: 2011’s Heisman Trophy winner and current Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, St. Louis Rams offensive lineman Jason Smith, and Atlanta Falcons place kicker Matt Bryant. This year the Bears hope to come back even stronger as they look to top the Big 12, and Gold Coast Tickets does not want you to miss out on the action.
