2013 Record (85-77) missed playoffs
2013 was another exciting year for the Baltimore Orioles. Playing in one of the most beautiful ballparks in the league, in the most competitive division, the Orioles were in the thick of the playoff race. Barely missing out on the playoffs after an incredibly successful 96 win 2012, the 2014 Orioles are thinking playoffs or bust. The Orioles are managed by former ESPN announcer Buck Showalter. Showalter immediately turned a struggling Orioles team into a contender when he took over in 2010.
On the field the Orioles have a plethora of talent. Chris Davis alone is a reason to head to Camden Yards. Hitting a league high 53 home runs with 138 runs batted last year the slugger continues to make a name for himself. Adam Jones, the center fielder, is arguably the team’s best player. Hitting for power while patrolling center field he provides a spark in the middle of the Orioles lineup. Long time Oriole, Nick Markakis is off to a great start in 2014 leading the team in hits. In order for the Orioles to get back into the playoffs they will need consistent performances from the pitching staff. The ace of the staff is Ubalado Jimenez who the Orioles acquired from Cleveland in the off season. Jimenez along with starting pitcher Chris Tilman look will look to round into form after struggling initially. The Orioles will be in the thick of things throughout the season.
